Good News, Bad News

The good news today was the first gatherings of this year's tomato harvest!

The bad news is that, despite 4-ft. tall deer fencing staked securely all around the garden, some dastardly varmint has been munching away at the lettuces. So a complete salad is an impossibility. Let's just hope that he doesn't decide to turn his attention to the tomatoes!

  1. We have a 4 x 4ft tall enclosed (top and bottom) garden just for my tomatoes. Somehow the squirrels are chewing their way through the plastic fencing and tasting just about EVERY tomato, green ones and red ones! They never finish eating one, just taking out chunks!

    1. Grrr. Those are some VERY wicked squirrels! That must be SO vexing! What will you try next?

I'm not happy about my lettuce, but it'll be war, if it comes for my tomatoes.

  2. Trying to put cayenne pepper around the area to discourage them. My husband put another layer of netting on top of what was torn, other than that, we'll just let the tomatoes go. A bad year with lots of rain too.

    1. I hope that works! When something like that happens here, I figure it's because God wants me to support our local farmers and buy more from the farmers' market.
