Fire Pit Project

Last summer, Max began work on a fire pit in the backyard.  Things were going along well, and then we discovered a problem.  We all sat back, looked at it and said, “Hmm…”, and there it sat until last week.  Now we have begun anew, with the pit re-leveled, the interior bricks reinstalled, and the purchase of some really fabulous tumbled bluestone.

We’ll be hard at work finishing it this week, because Colette is hosting a “s’more night” Saturday!  More pictures of the finished fire pit to come!

Thank you so much for your Independence Day pictures. The combination of July 4th decorations and historical homes is perfection! I love your idea of a permanent fire pit. And, even though we do have raised beds, I really like your reasoning for not having them - hope you will post some pictures of your garden as the summer progresses. Your blueberry pie looked wonderful - I do love Tasha Tudor's recipes - have you tried hers for Pineapple Upside Down Cake? Your tradition of freezing pie cherries for the winter celebration of Washington's Birthday is so nice - I love traditions! I have some cherries in our freezer and may just join you next year in making a pie in February. So glad you are feeling better. Praying for you and your family. - Esther in NJ

No, I haven't tried her Pineapple Upside Down Cake. But thanks for the tip! I'll have to do that!

    1. I love that her recipe for Pineapple Upside Down Cake uses a "heavy iron frying pan". There is just something so satisfying in putting one of our iron frying pans in the oven! Of course, the trick is turning it over onto a platter when it's done - but the taste is wonderful. It's in "The Tasha Tudor Cookbook - Recipes and Reminiscences from Corgi Cottage" - every now and then I just take it off the shelf to read and enjoy the her art work. So cozy!
